- The
concept of four basic personality types dates back to ancient Greece,
where Hippocrates labeled the 4 personality types as "Sanguine",
"Phlegmatic", "Melancholy", and "Choleric".
Over
the centuries, these descriptions have become more refined, but most
personality testing systems on the market today, still largely describe
these 4 temperaments.
For simplicity, we refer to the 4 types as
"A", "B", "C" and "D". Each has its own strengths and weaknesses as well
as various traits that are often exhibited. None of us are ALL one type,
in fact we ALL draw from ALL FOUR types.
However, there is usually one, sometimes
two, that we draw from most often and knowing that can be the key to a
successful hire or knowing how to manage employees.
If you know which Personality
Characteristics and Traits contribute to the SUCCESS of your best
employees, and the differences between those and your most difficult
employees, you can begin to develop a "Success Profile", what we call a
"BASELINE", of the "ideal" employee profile in each job and for each
geographic region.

compare the personalities of new applicants or even employees being
considered for a move or promotion. Even if your company is "downsizing",
